What is the turnaround time for senior portraits?

The turnaround time is between 4 - 6 weeks from the time of your photo session. Here's more detail about the process.

  • Step 1 is a portrait consultation. This helps us get to know each other and determine what type of session is best, pick locations, and plan clothing and accessories. Finally, we reserve 2 dates on the studio calendar just for you - your session and view and order.
  • Step 2 is the actual photo session! This is your day to be the star of the show!
  • Step 3 is the view and order appointment. This is usually scheduled within 2 weeks of your session. We'll watch your slideshow, choose favorites, and order your portraits.
  • Step 4 is your order pick up! Everyone's favorite step is getting to see and hold their portraits and books! Depending on what products you order and time of year this step usually takes place within 2 - 4 weeks after your view and order date.

When is the best time to have your senior portraits made?

This is a great question and let me start by asking you some questions so that we can decide what is right for you.

Are you any part of Friday Night Lights?

If that's a yes, most likely you'll want to also have a senior ad in the football program. Henderson's deadline is August 5th. That may sound like you have all summer, but keep in mind that the regular turnaround time is between 4 - 6 weeks and even though a football ad is only a digital product to deliver, it will still flow through most of the same workflow. Instead of going to the lab for printing, an ad will be custom designed for your images.

All that to say, we need to do your senior portraits in June. Which is great because I am offering complimentary ad design for all June sessions!

Do you want a studio or location session?

I offer studio sessions year-round, and for the months of July and August, I will only be offering studio sessions. I have a great back yard so we can pop out and get some quick outdoor looks, but that time of year is not the best time to be outside for 2 hours. Makeup and hair doesn't like the Texas heat and humidity so that's why we stay close to the studio these months.

Location sessions are great in the fall or early spring once the weather has turned a bit cooler.

What do you plan to use your portraits for?

It may sound like a silly question, but it's important to plan these things out. Let's start with every senior's favorite thing. #seniorsunday posts. There are generally only about 40 senior Sundays in your senior year. If you do a summer session, you'll be able to have a new senior Sunday post each week because social media images come with all books and they are usually about 40 images.

Are you planning to apply for scholarships?

Some scholarships require you to set up an online portal with a student profile so you are going to need an appropriate headshot for this purpose. Scholarship deadlines are as early as November in some cases.

Do you plan to join a fraternity or sorority in college?

You may be required to submit a headshot and body shot with your application. You'll need to have them by early spring.

Are you sending photo graduation announcements or party invitations?

Why wouldn't you? I call this your friends and family scholarship, and my cards are priced very affordable so that you can send one to everyone you love. It's best to have those cards arrive to your friends and family about 2 weeks prior to your event. So when you take into account the turnaround time and add a few days for the mail, you'll see that you need to have your senior session before the end of March.

Are you going to do a senior table?

These are popular and most organizations have seniors do a senior table at their last spring banquet, and you'll definitely want to include your senior portraits for display! Banquets usually happen in May, so you'll need to make sure you have your senior session by the end of March.

Are you doing a senior ad in the yearbook?

You'll want to check with your school, but I've seen those deadlines as early as March. So that would mean we need to do your session in the fall.

I see that I NEED a June session, but I really WANT a fall session when the leaves are turning. What do I do?

No problem! Any time after your initial senior session, you are welcome to BOUNCE BACK in front of my camera for a small session fee of just $49. Bounce back sessions are quick and take 30 minutes or less because they are limited to one location and one clothing choice. You are welcome to do as many bounce backs as you'd like during your senior year! They are perfect for best friends, pets, seasons, sports, prom, or cap and gowns. Adding images from these sessions to your senior book makes it extra special because it showcases your full senior year!

If you've taken the time to read this far you can see how busy your senior year will be! I'd like to help you take the stress out of this small part. Let's plan ahead so that you'll never have to stress over having your senior portraits made.
